The Most Pervasive Problems in Group Travel

Travelling as a large group can be the best of times and the worst of times. It can be so much fun to have everyone around you to enjoy the experience. But it can be a nightmare to corral everyone and get them to the same places at the same time. Here I take a look at the most pervasive problems with group travel and what we can do about them.

Boredom

One of the most pervasive issues when travelling in a large group is that people can become very bored very quickly on a long journey. It's easy for them to retreat into their own little world with the headphones and ipads and ignore all the other people that they are travelling with. To avoid this prepare some fun travel games that can involve the whole group. If you are travelling in separate vehicles why not pit one team again another and offer a prize for the winner.

Travelling with children

Another pervasive problem with travelling in a group is that there is more than likely a range of ages with different needs. The older generation may need to stop for comfort breaks more often. While kids may need to get out the car and run around to burn off some of that extra energy. A good way of dealing with this is to try to group people into age groups so the seniors go in one car and the kids and another. With supervision of course. If this isn't possible and you are all travelling in one bus, then just make sure that you have lots of refreshments. Also, let everyone know when the comfort breaks will be so they know they do not have long to wait for the next one.

Convoys

Another real problem when travelling in a big group is when you ride in a convoy. A convoy is a line of cars or vehicles that are following the car in front to a chosen destination. The problem with this is the more cars you add, the more opportunities there are for someone getting lost and so holding the rest of the team up. A good way to deal with this is to consider hiring one of the many types of charter buses for rent. Then you can also be on the same vehicle and avoid these problematic issues.

Breakdowns

Another pervasive problem when travelling in a large group is when you suffer a flat tire or breakdown. Minor breakdowns are inconvenient, and they can put back your trip’s progress while you wait for roadside assistance to come. If you are lucky, they will be able to fix it there and then and then. Then you’ll be back on your way in no time. However if they need to tow your vehicle, it is going to take you longer to pick up where you left off on your trip. Always make sure that you have roadside assistance coverage for the vehicle that you are driving. Ensure too that you have an emergency pack with water, blankets, cereal bars and hazard light in case you do breakdown.
