That short vacation in Hong Kong in August of 2009 gave me a chance to visit the enormous Tian Tan Buddha. Also referred to as the Big Buddha, the 250 metric ton statue is made of bronze and was completed in 1993. With a height of 34 meters, it’s impossible not to spot the Tian Tan Buddha sitting on a throne on top of a high altar at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island in Hong Kong.
We [Lo, Bebe and I] arrived at the Ngong Ping Village a couple of hours after having lunch via the cable car. The Big Buddha was the last place we visited while there which was just lovely. The sun was already starting to set by the time we arrived at the top. With 240 steps to climb, getting there was kind of a challenge especially to tired and hungry tourists.
